Disaster Movie is a comedy film released in 2008. It’s currently the lowest-rated movie on IMDb with a 1.9 rating. In the business of subjecting myself to cruel punishments for the art of comedic writing, I spent $5.99, far more than I should have, and submitted myself to 87 minutes of cinematic hell, all for a joke.
It’s quite tough to pay attention to what’s going on, partly because it’s ten years old, and mostly because it’s not good. I had to watch it twice because even going through my notes; I wasn’t sure what I had just seen it. I’d say it hasn’t aged well, but I suspect similar things were probably said when it was released in 2008.
Kim Kardashian has her film debut, which is more shameful than anything that could’ve taken place in the sex tape. She was surprisingly not the worst part of the movie, because everything else was so dreadfully dull or a joke didn’t land that at times, I was genuinely angry that I spent money to watch this.
As I slowly approached the end of this movie my first time around, I imagined I developed a feeling similar to how a marathon runner feels as they approach the finish line. After a lengthy ending sequence where they sing about sex, the credits finally roll and release me from my figurative prison.
I wouldn’t have had such a terrible watching it, had I not been a writer who gets headaches from seeing the poor writing that was used. I also enjoy movies, so this was like getting shot in both kneecaps.
I would not, however, refer to it as the worst movie ever made. Lists are subjective, so I can’t willingly place it on the top of my list. That spot is reserved for Dragonball: Evolution. Don’t even get me started on that. That rage will follow me to my grave and lead to my formation of a vengeful spirit that complains about poorly made movies.
